About Telehealth

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth, also known as telemedicine, is the provision of healthcare services using telecommunications technology. It allows healthcare professionals to communicate with clients remotely. Luz Psychology currently operates via telehealth only.

Telecommunication Technology

Telehealth relies on various telecommunication technologies to facilitate remote healthcare services. Luz Psychology uses a secure video conferencing platform to host video visits and uses a secure online platform for client-doctor interactions. Advancements in telecommunication technology, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, have greatly expanded the possibilities and effectiveness of telehealth. Research has demonstrated that therapy provided via telehealth is just as effective as in-person care.

Benefits of Telehealth

Telehealth expands access to healthcare, eliminating geographical barriers particularly for those in remote or under-resourced locations. Telehealth is easier to fit into your busy schedule, eliminating travel time and travel-related costs. Telehealth increases the overall efficiency of our healthcare systems, and creates a flexible, accessible option for you to seek therapy from the comfort of your home.

Once you’ve scheduled your first appointment, you will be provided with a link to access your secure client portal. Here, you will see information related to practice policies, informed consent, and other intake documents. You will review and complete initial documents prior to your first appointment.

When it is time for your first appointment, you will log in using the video link provided to you. To do so, you will need:

  1. Access to the Internet: Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Whether you're using Wi-Fi or your mobile data, reliable internet access is essential for a smooth telehealth experience.

  2. A device with video capability: Whether it's a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer, as long as your device has a camera and microphone, you're good to go!

  3. A private location: Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can have your telehealth appointment without any interruptions. It could be the privacy of your own home, your office, or any other location with the privacy you need.
